Mark Schiefele the Great- Writers Workshop Publication #3

Hi we have been working on a new Writers Workshop for the past two weeks and this is mine it is about Mark Schiefele

Mark Schiefele the Great

Do you know who Mark Schiefele is? He is an NHL player for the Winnipeg Jets. I have seen him play and he is really fun to watch, because he is arguably the Jets best player.

Mark Schiefele was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, on March 15, 1993.  His parents are Brad and Mary Lou, and he also has a sister named Janelle and a brother named Kyle. He grew up in Kitchener and went to Grand River Collegiate Institute for school until he was drafted into the Ontario Hockey League (OHL)  for the Saginaw Spirit. Then, he was traded to the Barrie Colts.

In Barrie, he was coached under Winnipeg Jets legend Dale Hawerchuk. He was the alternate captain and wore number 19. There he put up a total of 187 points (67 goals, 120 assists) in 143 games. Dale Hawerchuk helped get the Jets eyes on him.

Mark was drafted in 2011, 7th overall in the first round for the Winnipeg Jets, which was a shocker, as he was not projected to go so high. He played only 7 games in the 2011-12 season before being sent down to the OHL’s Barrie Colts and called up for the playoffs for the AHL’s St. Johns Ice Caps , and he played  another 4 games in 2012-13 NHL season before being sent down again, this time to the Barrie Colts. He finally got a larger season in 2013-14, playing 63 games and putting up 13 goals and 20 assists for 34 points. His career high points total is from 2018-19, when he got 84 points (38 goals, 48 assists) in 82 games. It was also his highest goal total he ever had.

He is currently playing for the Winnipeg Jets on the first line and first power play  unit. He is the Jets alternate captain with Josh Morrisey, and he usually plays with Blake Wheeler, who is the captain. He wears number 55. He usually plays with Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor, but he sometimes plays with Patrik Laine and Blake Wheeler, or sometimes other players if Paul Maurice is matching lines. He is always one of the Jets top scorers, having a great season of 73 points (29 goals, 44 assists), that could’ve been a career high had not COVID-19 shortened the season.

Mark Schiefele is 6’3” and 207 lbs. His annual salary is $6,125,000 per year. He was the first draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0 organization ever, and he couldn’t even put on their jersey on draft day because they hadn’t decided on one yet, so he instead put on an NHL jersey and cap.

I like Mark Schiefele because he is in my opinion the best Jets player and his point totals prove it. He is 27 so he is still in his prime and he might be a 70+ point scorer until 35. He is the heart  of the Jets. He is also a good leader, and he has a great way of dishing out passes. He plays good defense, and he could be on the penalty kill but he isn’t. Schiefele is also Christian like me and he doesn’t swear, so I like him for that too.

Those are facts about Mark Schiefele and why I like him. I hope you learned about him and I hope you like him now too.

5 random questions

Hi I thought of  this topic so please read it and put your answers in the comments to these questions. It is about questions that people all answer differently.

1. Pepsi or Coke?

I like Coke better, it is sweeter and also I like it better because it is red and that is my favourite colour.

Diet Coke helps boost Coca-Cola's brand value: Brand Finance rankings

2. Hotdogs or Hamburgers?

I like Hotdogs more, because the ones you can get (or could get before COVID anyway) at Jet’s games taste amazing. You can also put on bacon and cheese to your hotdog, which is all I put on my burgers anyway besides mayo, ketchup, and mustard, so Hotdogs have a better upside in my opinion.

3. Bruins or Maple Leafs?

I like the Bruins because my favourite teams are the Jets and Red Wings, who both hate the Maple Leafs.

5. Xbox or PlayStation?

I like Xbox because their controller has bigger holes in the Joysticks so it’s easier to control, and also the controller fits my hand but PS doesn’t fit my hand.

The NHL reverse retro jerseys top 3

Hello, today I am blogging about the new reverse retro jerseys that were released a couple weeks ago. I will rank the top 3 and I will post another blog with the worst 3. The reverse retro jerseys are jerseys that are jerseys that are kind of like the heritage classic  jerseys were they make a jersey look modern yet also look like their teams history.

Number 1 best: Washington Capitals

The Capitals brought back their screaming eagle with a red background instead of the dark blue and put blue on the bottom. The colours are really nice, and I feel they hit the switch up colour better than the Blues, who did the exact same thing basically. I think that this is just a great jersey, and it also is the same type of jersey as the rookie year of Ovechkin, the greatest Cap to ever play.

Number 2 best: Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes took their old cartoon coyote from their old jersey that not many people liked, but now lots of people (including me) love their new one. I love their colour combination. It is purple with an orange bottom and some cactuses, as well as a moon. I think they did a great job with this jersey.

Number 3 best: tie between the Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators

Lots of people don’t like the Minnesota Wild’s jersey and no one is super happy about the Senators, but I really like their colours. The Wild have a plain white jersey with a yellow and green logo, and yellow and green stripes. It is sort of plain, but it looks really nice, although it also looks like subway. These colours honour the Minnesota North Stars, who used to be their NHL team. Ottawa has a red base with two black armbands and they used their 2D logo. It is just a really nice basic jersey that has the old logo, which they are actually switching back to fully.

The Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken are going to be the newest addition to the NHL in the 21-22 Season. They will be playing in their old arena that the Seattle Metropolitans used way back before the NHL.

I think Seattle will be a good team when they come in. There is a lot of good players out there that might be available in the expansion draft. Since so many teams are taking the 2 goalie approach the free agent market for goalies and the trade market for goalies will be huge, because they don’t want to lose them in the expansion draft, so they won’t renew their goalie and then sign him in free agents.

I so far like the Kraken. They have a nice logo and jersey. I think they will try and be like Vegas and be a good team right off the start. Players they could get are:

Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury. Fleury was took in the expansion draft for Vegas from Pittsburgh, but now Vegas has Robin Lehner, so they will protect him instead.

Center Anthony Cirelli. Cirelli is a 2nd-3rd line center for the Tampa Bay Lightning, but Tampa Bay is  trying to dump cap. They were trying to trade Johnson, Killorn, or Palat, but they all have no trade clauses, so it would be easier to dump them in the draft instead. But, the Lightning might leave open Johnson, Killorn, or Palat instead.

Defenseman Kris Letang. Letang is 35 and his contract expires in the year that the Kraken come into the league. The Penguins will probably leave him open since he is pretty old and they will be a free agent the year that Seattle comes in. Letang would be a solid anchor for the Kraken.

Facts about the Kraken:

The Kraken are partially owned by Jeff Bezos, the 2nd richest man in the world. He helped name their arena, which is called The Climate Pledge Arena.

Their ice will be made by rainwater gathered on the roof (or so I’ve heard)

All their proceeds from merchandise will be donated.

The red eye on their logo wasn’t there until one of the last design meetings.
